Do you treat your finance work as a sacred practice?

So many business owners dread the finance work. They avoid it. Procrastinate. Put it off until the deadline looms and then they react from a place of shame, stress, and overwhelm. Sound familiar?

People get into business because they love what they do. They want to serve with their gifts, abilities, and products to solve the problems of others. Thank you for doing what you do.

But how are you dealing with the money? Do you treat your finances with the same sacred regard you have for your work? Do you set aside time each week to keep in tune with your money?

Here are some tips to ritualize your sacred financial work:

Set the same day and time every week. Block your calendar. Danielle LaPorte, in her Metaphysics Days of the Week, recommends Tuesdays for finance work. In the beginning, give yourself an hour longer than you think you need. Once you get into the rhythm, you can adjust your schedule.

Put on music that will help you focus and energize you for the task. If movement is your thing, get up and shake it out before you sit down to do the work.

Reframe the dread. You are serving your business, so your business can serve others.

Money is a sacred exchange between you and your clients, you and your providers, you and the government. Treat it with sacred regard. Light a candle. Say a prayer. Set an intention. Repeat a mantra. Whatever works for you, build it into your ritual.

When you’re done, celebrate in a way that feels nourishing and fun.

Does this feel more aligned with how you want to move through the world? Or do you prefer the last-minute deadline stress? Those are genuine, not sarcastic, questions. Everyone has their own way of being, and there is no right or wrong.
